Saturday 12th December
Saturday 19th December

between 8.30am and 12.00pm.

Any patients with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease or respiratory/lung disease attend. No appointment necessary.

Swine flu information (dated 11/02/2010)

PLEASE DO NOT COME IN TO THE SURGERY.

You will be assessed by a trained advisor and if you qualify for antiviral treatment (and you chose to take them), you will be given a unique reference number and told where your ?flu friend? can go to collect the medication (the nearest collection point).

Symptoms of swine flu ?

The symptoms of swine flu are broadly the same as those of ordinary flu, but may be more severe.

The typical symptoms are:

Fever (a high body temperature of over 38C or 100.4F and TWO of the following symptoms:

  • headache
  • tiredness
  • chills
  • aching muscles
  • limb or joint pain
  • diarrhoea or stomach upset
  • sore throat
  • runny nose
  • sneezing, and
  • loss of appetite.

In the meantime, take paracetamol-based cold remedy to reduce your fever and other symptoms, drink plenty of fluids and get lots of rest.

Reducing the spread of the virus

General hygiene can help to reduce transmission of all viruses, including the swine flu virus.

This includes:

  • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible
  • Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully
  • Maintaining good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to your face or to other people
  • Cleaning hard surfaces (such as door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product.

For more detailed information and answers to common questions visit www.nhs.uk and www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk or call the swine flu information line on 0800 513 513.
